Learning how to draw and sketch can seem like an
impossible task to some of us. A few stick figures
are the extent of our drawing repertoire. And if
someone told you that you could be drawing and
sketching amazing pictures in just a few weeks you
would probably laugh. But it~s true! Drawing and
sketching is a skill that anyone can learn, whether
you~re young or old, it doesn~t matter. A few
simple techniques are all you need to start drawing.

When you are just learning how to draw, there is no
need for fancy paper, just some old paper will do.
However, you should quickly switch over to a
proper drawing pad since it will greatly impact the
ease and quality of your drawings. You will also
need a number 2 pencil, a quality eraser, and several
different grade pencils. All these supplies can be
found at any art store in your city or online. Be sure
to get quality supplies, they will make all the
difference to your drawings. A number 2 pencil is
especially important since it will help with shading.

If you can afford to take a few drawing lessons do
so. Lessons will put you leaps and bounds ahead of
where you would be if you took lessons from a
book or website. Your local community center
should offer classes that can teach you the basics in
a matter of weeks. You will be surprised at how
quickly your drawings take shape. Everyone can
draw, all they need is a little patience and guidance.

Finding subjects for your drawings may seem
difficult when you are first beginning to learn how
to draw. Don~t use live subjects since you~ll need
plenty of time to get your dimensions right and you
don~t want to feel rushed. Also stay away from
flash photography pictures. These pictures lack
depth and can seem very flat which makes it very
difficult to draw a realistic picture. If you can~t
seem to find any good pictures check at your local
library for a drawing and sketching book since most
will have some samples for you to use.

A great way to get new ideas for sketches and
drawing techniques is to subscribe to a drawing chat
room, forum, or newsletter. This is a great way to
get in touch with other people who are just starting
and give you an opportunity to ask more seasoned
artists any questions you may have. There are many
different websites on the Internet that can provide
you with plenty of information and help on your
drawings and sketches.

Learning how to draw can take some time, but with
patience and the right basic skills drawing is
something that is possible for everyone. Don~t
expect to have picture perfect drawings right away,
but anyone can learn in time.
