What time of the year can be more exciting for kids and even
adults than Halloween! The traditional All Hallow's Eve is a
night to remember with its fun costumes, crisp air and of
course, the candy treats. Sadly, Halloween nights end up in
disaster for some kids and they fall victim to accidents,
many of them quite serious. It is important to educate
yourself and your kids about the safety measures to be
followed at Halloween time so that your family does not
suffer a Halloween tragedy. So, arm yourself with the safety
rules and have a safe Halloween!

Halloween falls at the end of October when the weather turns
cold in many parts of the country. So, make sure your child
is properly protected from the chill. Keep the weather in
mind when you plan your child's costume. Encourage children
to wear layers, long pants, long sleeves, and walking shoes
or athletic shoes. Also, if the weather proves to be too
bad, you should think of an alternate plan instead of the
traditional 'trick or treat' around the neighborhood. You
may consider attending a community or neighborhood party.
You and your children will enjoy Halloween without being wet
or cold while traipsing around the neighborhood.

The reason why so many accidents happen on Halloween is
because the kids are out after dark. Moreover, they are in
dark costumes. Very often they may be virtually invisible to
a car's driver. So, would not it be a better idea to leave
around dusk rather than late night. Also, you and your child
should carry a flashlight so that you do not step on
something dangerous in the dark.

Make sure you sew some reflective strips on to your child's
costume, both at the front and at the back. These days, most
ready made outfits come with these reflective strips. In the
last few years, flickering jewelry and pins have gained
popularity as Halloween accessories because they add to the
safety as well as look decorative. You must check your
child's mask carefully to ensure that the can breathe
normally through the holes around the mouth and nose. And
most importantly, make sure the eye holes are such that the
child can see properly through them.

Check all candy to make sure it is edible before allowing
your child to eat it. To be safe, the treats need to be
thrown if the wrapper is off or open. Once you have ensured
all these items are checked and everything is fine, you can
be sure to have a safe, enjoyable Halloween. Proper safety
precautions can save your Halloween from turning into a
nightmare and remain a favorite holiday for the kids!
