Earning Degrees

Obtaining degrees is a goal of many Americans. The reason
for this is more high paying jobs are available for
individuals with more degrees. While some people actually go
to college for the sake of learning or because they really
enjoy a particular subject, the majority of people simply go
to college to get a degree so they can get a job. The
degrees start with a high school degree followed by a two
year community college degree, then comes the four year
university degree followed by the two year masters degree
and the ultimate degree is the doctoral degree.

A high school degree is the culmination of 13 years of study
from kindergarten through the 12th grade. Fortunately, the
majority of Americans receive their high school degrees and
those that do not frequently return to school to get their
GED. The reason for this is the high school degree is the
basis for the majority of jobs in the United States. Those
without a high school degree find it very difficult to get a
job.

The university four year degree is next and the goal of most
Americans. This is because the majority of management jobs
as well as higher paying jobs require a four year degree
regardless of experience. So, many Americans continue their
education at the university level despite the high tuition
fees.

Next comes masters degrees, which require the student to
study an additional two years in a specific curriculum.
Students can obtain masters degrees in a wide variety of
subjects with the MBA being one of the more popular masters
degrees.

Doctoral degrees include more years of studying and
preparation. During this time more critical thinking is
assigned to the student and more hands on activities are
engaged in. This is because this is the highest level of
education and all of the final stages are taught during this
time frame in order to prepare the student for the world of
work. Doctoral degrees are available in any subject as well
as medicine, pharmacy, and others.

While many people receive their high school diplomas the
percentage of individuals involved in higher learning
decreases significantly with each level of education. The
reason for this is because college education is expensive
and tuition continues to increase every year. Also,
individuals who are studying frequently are unable to work,
which makes living on student loans the only option for
many. Add this to the desire of many Americans to start
earning money because of financial restraints and fewer
people continue their education past high school. However,
if you are willing to sacrifice while you are young and
continue studying the payoffs will be big when it comes to
your future salary.
