Students That Any College Wants

In today's highly competitive world, most high school
students plan on continuing with college education after
graduation. What are the possibilities and requirements
for gaining admission into colleges? Here are some ideas
that will improve your chances of being admitted to the
college of your choice.
1. Get the best grades you are capable of getting.
Everyone is not capable of straight-A's, but any student
of average intelligence and a superior work-ethic can
maintain a B-average at the very least. Know the
objectives for every class you take. If you can't master
a course objective, as the instructor for additional help
and resources to improve. Turn your assignments in on or
before their deadlines. Ask about extra credit, but don't
plan on using it as a substitute for promptly-completed,
high-quality work.
2. Make time for daily study by scheduling it the same as
you do your classes, your extracurricular activities, and
your social activities. Regularly scheduled study time
helps assure quality work and a comfortable margin of
time to complete and submit it.
3. Read a wide selection of books. If you don't enjoy
reading, start by reading a book or two each month. You
will be surprised how many great stories and ideas lurk
between the covers of a book. Choose from biographies,
histories, adventures, memoirs, and a host of other
genres. Borrow books for free from the public library.
Once you start reading, you may soon enjoy the habit.
Reading exposes your mind to new ideas and styles of
writing. Soon, your ability to express yourself and
your ideas will begin to improve.
4. Write! Write a lot. Write about a varied and diverse
list of interests. Write e mails to friends about things
you're passionate about. Write to the Op-Ed page of your
local newspaper regarding current events you have interest
in and opinions about. Take classes that require you to
do a lot of researching and writing. All of this practice
will go a long way in developing your written
communication skills to the proficiency level necessary to
be successful in college.
By cultivating study habits like these, you can become the
type of student that every college is looking for and
instructors take delight in. You may also want to contact
instructors at the college or university where you hope to
enroll. Find out what they are looking for or expect in
new students. Then you can graduate high school with
confidence, knowing you are ready for the next step of
your education for life.
